About Mitsubishi

One of the most prominent automotive manufacturers in Japan, Mitsubishi is actually a group of autonomous companies that work together under a single brand. However, in the US auto manufacturing is what Mitsubishi is best known. Combining two words, “mitsu” which means three and “bishi” which means “water chestnut”, the origin of the name Mitsubishis is reflected in the three diamond logo symbol that is famously associated with the company.

The actual history of Mitsubishi pre-dates the invention of the automobile. Originally a shipping firm that was established in 1870, Mitsubishi began expanding into related fields which included manufacturing as well. Becoming a conglomerate of companies with many different interests by the turn of the 20th century, Mitsubishi first came to the attention of those outside Japan during World War Two as the manufacturer of aircraft. Automotive manufacturing began in the days after the First World War, but the vehicles were mostly limited to Japan until after World War Two ended. At that time, Mitsubishi manufactured inexpensive vehicles, but enjoyed a breakthrough with the Mitsubishi 500 sedan in 1962. By the end of the 1960s, Mitsubishi was one of the largest manufacturers of automobiles in Japan with sales reaching around the world. Today, Mitsubishi creates all types of vehicles from sub-compacts to rally cars and offers a number of options from pin stripe to large, powerful engines.

The dawn of the 21st century brought about new lines of high performance vehicles, including the Lancer Evolution or EVO designs. A remarkable vehicle that today features a number of carbon fiber auto parts, the EVO is one of the most respected high performance autos manufactured in Japan. Mitsubishi has created a machine that is well priced and is sold in many contires, the sale of the evolution first generation started in October 1992. In March of 2001 to January 2003, Mitsubishi came our with Evolution VII (7), with the models of VII GSR and GT-A, offering the 5-speed automatic gearbox "fuzzy logic". Evolution VIII came out in January 2003 to March 2005, which is the 8th gen EVO VIII GSR, EVO VIII RS models and EVO MR edition. In 2003 was the first Mitsubishi Evolution to be sold in United States of America, with a 2.0 liter 271 horsepower engine. Mitsubishi Evolution IX models came in RS (Rally Sport), GSR (Grand Sport Rally), MR (Mitsubishi Racing) and SE (Special Edition). Startsing 2007, Mitsubishi came out with Tenth generation Evolotion X, in GSR, MR, MR Premium, MR touring, RS and SE. The EVO X uses the 2.0 litre inline-4 4B11T-type turbo engine, that ranges from 276hp in 2007 and 2008 to 296hp on 2009 model year.

Mitsubishi Impact of Carbon Fiber Parts

Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution

First introduced in 1992, the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution has proven to be one of the most popular and venerable of the Mitsubishi line of high performance sports cars. The Evolution, which is sometimes referred to as simply the Lancer, was originally intended only for the Japanese market, but it success in Europe and the US has allowed this vehicle to enjoy ten generations and counting.

The emphasis of the Lancer series is performance, thus the emphasis on engine designs with plenty of horsepower. However, many in this series also boast deluxe interior packages and leather seats as options as well. Comfort is an important factor with the Lancer Evolution series as well as variety with coupe, convertible and sedan versions available.

The 21st Century Line of the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution

Mitsubishi Evolution 7 EVO VII:

Based on the larger Lancer Cedia platform, the EVO VII was first introduced in 2001. It was heavier than its predecessor and used an active center differential along with a more limited slip differential. Plus, a new automatic drive train was installed as well.

Mitsubishi Evolution 8 EVO VIII:

Arriving in 2003, the EVO VIII was supposed to be a “one-off” model, but in remained in production for two years thanks to its popularity in the US. Sporting more upgrades, including using carbon fiber parts, the EVO VIII was the first model to be sold in the US.

Mitsubishi Evolution 9 EVO IX:

Released in 2005, the EVO IX incorporated a revised turbocharger design and boosted the power of the engine while reducing the overall weight of the vehicle. Going from 0 to 60 mph in 4.2 seconds, this version is quite powerful as well as popular.

Mitsubishi Evolution 10 EVO X:

The current line of the Lancer Evolution, this version boasts a 2 liter, 291 hp engine, all-wheel control, and a twin clutch Sportronic shift transmission as an optional feature. This version is seemingly more compact, yet it offers all the latest features while boasting substantial performance capabilities.

The Impact of Carbon Fiber Technology

Carbon fiber or CF auto parts have become more popular in the past decade thanks to the use of twill weave technology.
