The Range Rover line is one of the most legendary in the auto industry. First introduced in 1970, is a luxury, four wheel drive SUV that his the flagship of the Land Rover company in England. Easily recognizable over the generations for its distinctive raised exterior, the Range Rover has enthralled generations of drivers and their families with spacious comfort with plenty of cargo room.
There are two prominent versions of the Range Rover on the roads today, the recently released L405 version and the previous generation, the L322 which has recently ended its production run.
Range Rover (L322) and Range Rover (L405)
L322: Introduced in 2002, the L322 is the third generation of Range Rovers models. Boasting a V8 engine, automatic transmission and many new electronic features, the L322 was highly successful for its ten year production run. Over its ten year run there were numerous upgrades and facelifts to help improve the overall luxury and performance of the L322.
L405: The successor to the L322, the L405 was introduced in 2012 at the Paris Motor Show and is currently in production. There is even a hybrid version available for the L405 as well. Equipped with “terrain response” for better handling, the L405 boasts “intelligent” four wheel drive with advanced suspension for rough terrain.
Differences between the L322 & L405 Range Rovers
Although there are many similarities between both generations, the L405 features an all-aluminum monocoque body which is the most obvious visual difference between the two, the first of its kind for an SUV. The L405 is often described as being more “sporty” in appearance, particularly the sleeker exterior which is markedly different than previous Range Rover versions.
The Range Rover & Carbon Fiber Technology
