SEMA (Specialty Equipment Market Association Show), even though not open to the public, has always been the show to impress at. Insiders and consumers alike look to this showcase to see what manufacturers have to offer. In 2012, Subaru and Scion landed a 1-2 punch that stirred up enthusiasm in consumers and the aftermarket. After the success of 2012 SEMA, modified Toyobarus coupes were back in force for 2013- and they didn’t disappoint.

Here are just a few examples of the modified coupes that were shown off at SEMA this year.

Concept One

Arguably, this was one of the best modifieds featured at the show for 2013. Created by Bulletproof Automotive, the Concept One was meant to redefine the modern supercar and rethink everything from the ground up. Starting with a carbon fiber wide body kit, the Concept One features a Laborghini inspired Balloon White paint job and red Alcantara interior with gold and carbon fiber accents.

Seibon Carbon FR-S

Seibon was not skimping on the carbon fiber either, as evidenced by their use of the material for the hood, doors, roof, side skirts and trunk lid. Boasting a showy wide-body kit, the FR-S may not be very practical but its appeal is undeniable.

Speed Element FR-S

Aftermarket lighting experts, Spyder Auto also came prepared with several FR-S coupes to show off. This particular modified is housed in a Rocket Bunny wide-body kit bearing a bold and wide stance with its high polish wheels. Giving a unique look to this FR-S was the finishing touch of a ducktail spoiler, helping Spyder to stand out even further.

Steve Aoki x Scion FR-S

You can never discount how far a company will go to wow and entertain on this kind of stage. When it comes to entertainment, this Steve Aoki designed FR-S might just take home the prize. Less vehicle than mobile club, this FR-S was sporting a full professional mixing station, a custom sound system from Pioneer with several different packages of high end speakers available. Aoki even included a deck lid-mounted LCD display, fog machine and strobe lighting to this over the top design.

These bold Toyobarus coupes seem to have touched off something big in the world of automotive modifications, providing something of a blank slate for creative minds to build mind-blowing concepts. It will be exciting to see what impact 2013’s contributions have leading into the new year.
